In questi ultimi giorni mi è capitato di vedere in TV un vecchio Film con Patrick Swayze, intitolato “il duro del Road House”. Il Film narra di alcune vicende e al centro della scena c'è un locale, il Road House appunto, in cui suona un blues trio, all'epoca molto famoso!!
E' la band del compianto Jeff Healey, il cui nome nel Film è Cody, il grande chitarrista canadese, non vedente, di cui tra pochi giorni saranno trascorsi 3 anni dalla prematura scomparsa. Risentire, e rivedere Jeff Healey è stato davvero molto piacevole e mi sono resto conto che il suo profilo completo, che voule essere anche un ricordo, non poteva mancare su Guitarlist.
Mi sono andato a risentire alcuni lavori in studio e molti live (vedi i link sotto)...mamma mia che tocco, che suono, che feeling!!! Jeff Healey era davvero un fuoriclasse del nostro strumento. Per chi non ne abbia mai sentito parlare, Jeff Healey era cieco dall'età di 1 anno e per suonare la chitarra (rigorosamente Fender Stratocaster) utilizzava una posizione molto particolare dello strumento, appoggiato sulle gambe, e della mano sinistra, usata in posizione invertita rispetto a come si suona normalmente.
Ebbene proprio questa impostazione così particolare, unita ad una musicalità e un blues feeling fuori dal comune, ha determinato uno stile chitarristico esplosivo, una tecnica assolutamente sopraffina ed una strabiliante capacità di eseguire dei bending quasi unici per intensità e melodicità. Nella sua purtroppo breve carriera, Jeff Healey ha pubblicato 15 Album, dal 1985 al 2007, suonando la chitarra e cantando, con ottima voce, in tutti gli Album. Negli anni più recenti aveva inziato a suonare la tromba, arrivando ad incidere un paio di album di musica jazz
